Iron Infusions At Knox GP
Iron is one of the most important minerals for healthy body function, cognitive ability and energy production. Having too much iron can be just as harmful as being iron deficient, so it is essential your iron infusions are administered by an experienced doctor.

What Is An Iron Infusion?
The iron infusion is given intravenously through a needle inserted into the back of your hand or your forearm. Next, the needle is attached to a drip containing iron mixed with saline. This fluid is slowly dripped into the vein and mixes with the blood in the body.
As the iron combined with a saline solution mixes with the blood, it works to restore your iron levels up to a healthy range much faster than supplements or dietary changes. The iron infusion replenishes iron stores, allowing the normal production of hemoglobin which is very important as it carries oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body.
It often takes several iron infusions to bring the body’s iron levels up to the appropriate levels. Most patients notice symptoms (tiredness, dizziness and so on) improve within a few days with the full effect being more evident after a couple of weeks.

What to Expect from the Iron Infusion
When you arrive for your iron infusion at Knox GP, we ensure the process is as smooth and comfortable as possible. Here’s what you can expect:
1. Check-In & Assessment
All patients must first book an iron infusion consultation with one of our experienced doctors. During this appointment, the doctor will assess your symptoms, review your medical history, and consider any recent blood test results you provide. If you’re deemed eligible, your iron infusion will be scheduled soon after, depending on availability. Same-day infusions may be offered in urgent cases.
2. Administering the Iron Infusion
A needle will be inserted into a vein in your hand or arm, and the iron, mixed with saline, will be slowly dripped into your bloodstream. The process typically takes about 30 to 45 minutes. During this time, you can relax in the comfortable, private room. Some patients like to bring entertainment, such as a book or headphones, to pass the time.
3. Monitoring During the Infusion
Our medical team will closely monitor your progress throughout the procedure to ensure you’re comfortable and there are no adverse reactions. If you have any concerns, you can ask the staff at any time.
4. Post-Infusion Care
After the infusion is complete, we’ll remove the needle and apply pressure to the site to prevent any bruising. You may be asked to rest for a few minutes to ensure you’re feeling well before leaving the clinic. If needed, our staff will provide you with information on what to do following your treatment.
